American Heli-Arc is a specialty welding shop that has been located in Houston since 1983 working with customers and developing better products through weld engineering and product knowledge.

Our Team

Tom Young, Owner

The owner, Tom Young has been in the welding trade since 1974. He began at the Trade School of Brown & Root, then went to Los Angeles Trade Technical School and went on to work for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 4 years where he was enrolled in their metal laboratory training program. While working for Caterpillar he was enrolled in Richmond College for 2 years and began teaching welding classes at Richmond College. Tom was also an Airco Technical Institute welding instructor for 2 years after moving to Houston.

He started American Heli Arc in 1983. He has worked with such companies as the NASA Space Program, National Oil Field Products, Government Products, Specialty Machine Shops, Hughes Tool Co., Halliburton Drilling, Schlumberger Co., Nuclear Power Plants, Pressure Vessel Shops, West Port Laboratories, and able to interpret ASME code sec. 8-9.

Chris Williams, Welding Guru

Chris started working at American Heli-Arc Welding at the age of 13 years old, sweeping the floors and learning the trade throughout the first few years. As his apprenticeship went on he became a talented welder and overlooks the operations in the shop as well as welding as much as possible. Chris is certified in many different materials including different types of carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium and aluminum.

Alex Young, Team Member

Alex, grew up around the shop, learning the ropes at a very early age. After high school, he came back to Houston and started working and picked up the trade quickly. He is now a full-time certified welder here at American Heli-Arc and continues to learn the ropes, making his father proud!

Eric Young, Team Member

Eric is a certified EMT and and Eagle Scout. He graduated from the Houston High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. While he is not out saving lives he is in the shop helping us with print reading and general maintenance.
